Waterloo
ABBA
This album was the first one where the group was called ABBA, a name that had been voted as the most popular in a competition in Göteborgs-posten. Stig recalls that they had to go to the fish tinning company with the same name and ask for permission. The legend has it that they told Stig that "as long as it goes well for the group then we have nothing against it"... and it certainly didn't.

The success of Waterloo in Brighton - the victory - meant that a lot of records were sold, and Stig was already aware of this when he started the journey to Great Britain. He had prepared press packages that were sent out with tapes, and promo clips.

Waterloo won much because of its lively and rhytmical style, but also had words and music more hummable than others in the ESC during the years.

And both the album and the song on the A-side of the single was also a quite big step in the history - never had a song from ESC gained such popularity after the competition! And never had a group taken so much advantage from a victory in the competition.

Up until late 1974-5 the Waterloo album had sold all in all 4 million copies all over the world.
